BIRKENHEAD AFFAIRS.
The Birkenhead Borough Council met last night. '< recent: Messrs. C. E. .'ivmphell, deputy Mayor, in the chair, F. X.. K : ig, F. Fititv, R. Shepherd, J. T. McPhail, R. Webb. T. ChurchThe Hcjbour Board wrote agreeing to the council's proposal to defer for six months further consideration of the quesV tion of leasing the reclamation near the wharf, and it was decided to thank the hoard for its action. The Auckland Patriotic Fund Committe? wrote, thanking the council for forwarding Mr. lizard's offer of land for cropping purposes, but stating that as the committee had no organisation to take advantage of the offer, it- was suggested that the letter should be forwarded to the Government Agricultural DepartmentTho town clerk was empowered to receive donations at the council office, in aid of the Hnntly ami Belgium relief funds. In compliance with a Teijuest from the Takapuna Council, the town clerk -via." instructed to supply a plan showing the position and sizrf of the Birkenhead water mains in the Takapnna Borough. The waterworks engineer reported that 1,730.000 gallons of water had been pumped during the month, and the level ot Lake Takapuna had receded to sft 2iin above sea level-
