RHEIMS DESCRIBED AS A MASS OF RUINS.
CATHEDRAL AXD COLLEGES DESTROYED.
NEWS SENDS A THRILL THROUGHOUT ITALY.

Advices from Bordeaux state that Rheims is a mass of ruins. The colleges and public buildings, in addition to the cathedral, have been destroyed.
A message from Rome states faat the news of the bombardment of Rheims Cathedral has sent a thrill throughout Italy. The Fiornal d'ltalia describes it as a useless act of barbarism, 'due to a lunatic outburst of wounded vanity and cursed pride.
A message from Sydney states that M. Delcasse, the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, has telegraphed to the French Consul protesting against the vandalism of the Germans in destroying Rheims Cathedral, thus robbing humanity of an incomparable portion of its artistic inheritance.
A Berlin message states that Rheims was within the area of battle, and the Germans were compelled to fire.
A German officii communique received at Amsterdam, says: — " The French at Rheims compelled us to reply to their fire. We regret that the city was damaged. Orders were issued to spare the cathedral as much as possible."
