THE RUGBY GAME.

WELLINGTON" DEFEATS OTA GO.

Wellington, Sunday.

The annual Rugby football match between the representatives of Otago and Wellington was played at Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a victory for the home team by 25 points to 11. With the exception of a high wind, the ground and general conditions were favourable for open play, and the exhibition of Rugby displayed by both teams was very creditable. TJje attendance was much below the Average,

and there were not more than 2000 spectators present. Features of the game were the determined and sure tackling of players on each side, the excellent goal-kicking by Roberts, the dash of both sets of forwards, and the manner in which the Wellington backs threw the ball about. There was little to choose between the forward divisions, but on the day the Wellington backs showed to greater advantage when on the attack. In the first spell Algar scored a try for Wellington and three penalty goals wore kicked by Roberts. In the second half, Wilson scored two tries for Wellington, which Roberts converted, and Patton scored a 1 unconverted try. Otago's score was compiled in the Bocond spell. Denham and Irvine scored tries, one of which was converted by Wilson, and Palerson kicked a penalty goal.
