PRISONERS FROM SAMOA.

EX-GOVERNOR IN AUCKLAND.

INTERNED AT MOTUIHI

The four prisoners of war, brought from Fiji by the steamer Navua, were conducted to their quarters on Motuihi Island yesterday. The party comprised the late Governor of Samoa, Dr. E. Schulz, his secretary. Herr Mars, the wireless exj pert, at Samoa, Herr Hirsch, and a Hongi kong merchant, Herr Hansen. j A fairly large crowd was present at the i wharf to secure a, glimpse of the prisoners, j out if the people expected anything j spectacular they must have been dis- ! appointed. The proceedings were quiet and lacking in display. Colonel C. T. ! Major, D.5.0., officer commanding the | Auckland military district, and Major C. I 11. Mac Donald, general staff officer, were j present. J The members of the little party were I first taken to the troopship Waimana, ; where they remained temporarily, until the : arrangements at Motuihi Island were completed. Later the ex-Governor and his fellow prisoners were taken on board the ; ferry steamer Condor, and were trans- , ferred to the island. An efficient guard : ha 6 been mounted there. j Dr. Schulz is of typical German appear, nnce, and is about 50 years of age. Among his fellow passengers he earned the reputation of being quiet and unassuming, and a most pleasant companion. The proceed- | ings yesterday appeared to have little interest for him, and he spent most of his time gaily conversing with the friends he nad made on the voyage.
