CITY'S FORESHORE WORKS.
NEW HOBSON STREET BATHS
FISH-MARKET SITE CHOSEN,
The Works Committee of the City Council, accompanied by the Mayor, yesterday visited the foreshore in connection with chic undertakings in hand there.
The new Hobson Street baths were inspected, and it was found .hat excellent progress has been made with the buildings, and that a start had been made to construct the roof. There are to be separate swimming baths for men and women, in addition to several private baths. The whole has entailed-an expenditure of £10,000. The Mayor hopes to be able to open > the new baths next month, when the contract term expires. The baths will, in that, case, be available for the coming summer season.
The committee also selected a site for the new temporary fish market. It is to bo close to the landing-place, so that the fishing-boats will be able to come to within a few feet of the market, thus avoiding delay or expense in the transfer of fish. An opportunity is to be afforded to fishermen to bring fish to the new market, before trawling is attempted. Small buyers are to be provided for at retail stalls.
