The Canterbury representative team defeated Southland on Saturday by 31 points to 10 UNDER LEAGUE RULES. FANCY DRESS CARNIVAL. A fancy dress carnival, organised by the Auckland Rugby League, wag held on Saturday afternoon in aid of the Patriotio Fund. Members of the League teams adorned thornselves in humorous costumes, and from noon, headed by Highland pipers and a brass band, paraded tho town. Tho procession and the antics of the participants created a great deal of amusement. A section of the footballers in fancy dress sold tickets in the streets for the football matches at the Domain. At two o'clock the procession adjourned to the Domain where a football match was in progress between the Rcmuera and Ponsonby third grade teams. The foiraer team won by 10 points to 5 and the same two teams will play off for the championship next Saturday. Burlesque football was then played by a motley crowd of footballers. Tb<i burlesque created a great deal of merriment. The next proceeding was a match between the North Isl-nd Jockeys and a Remuera fourth grade team. The jockeys proved superior and won by 11 points to 1. A goal-kiclting competition was held concurrently and was won by B. Baker, of the Newton third grade team. The cash takings at the gate were £49 8s 6d. and members of the league collected about £3 at the ground. The total is expected to be considerably augmented by returns from the bale of tickets.
