SUPREME COURT CASE.
The case against a grocer named Harry Campbell, charged with receiving 20 cases of jam, well knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained, was concluded at the Supremo Court on Saturday before His Honor Mr. Justice Stringer. The case for the Crown, as heard on the previous day, was that the accused received the jam from a man named Tracoy, who was subsequently convicted of obtaining it dishonestly. Tracey had alleged that the accused had offered him £50 to take all tho blamo for the transaction. On Saturday the accused went into tho witness-box, swearing that he thought Tracoy had procured tho jam in an ordinary way of business. Ho denied Tracoy's allegations about the £50 bribe. Both Mr. J. R. Reed, K.C., for the defence, and the Hon. J. A. Tole, K.C., for the Crown, addressed the jury at some length. After His Honor's summing up, the jury retired to consider their verdict, returning in a few minutes with one of guilty. Sentence was deferred until this morning.
