UNBROKEN ALLIED FRONT. RUSSIA'S RAPID MUSTER POLAND PROMISED FREEDOM. FRENCH AVIATOR'S FEAT. b BOMBS DESTROY A ZEPPELIN. Day by day the war news emphasises the value to the allied forces of the Belgian defence of Liege. German progress has been effectually checked; France and Belgium have com« pleted the junction of their forces and arc presenting an unbroken front to the enemy on their frontiers. The Liege forts arc unconquered and behind them the French are holding the left bank of the Meuse, and Namur, naturally stronger than Liege, is heavily garrisoned. The Germans made an attempt to rush one of the Liege forts in the darkness on Thursday night, but were mowed down by the Belgian guns. It is reported that the German com= mander at Liege has been killed. It is expected that the French will assume the offensive in Alsace, with the object of sweeping the lost province clear of Germans. A daring French aviator succeeded in destroying one of Germany's valuable Zeppelins. He flew from Nancy, crossed to Germany, and dropped two bombs on the Zeppelin, which fell in a mass of wreckage. Mobilisation is proceeding in Russia with surprising rapidity. It is expected that a million Russian soldiers will soon cross into Austria and a million and a>halt into Germany. The German forces on the Russian frontier are reported to be weak, The export trade of Denmark, which was suspended on account of the danger from mines laid by the Germans, is again in full swing. Ships loaded with food are leaving for England. An Austrian passenger steamer struck a mine in the Adriatic and was blown up. Of 300 persons on board 143 were drowned.
British ships have succeeded in limiting the movements of
the Germain warships in Eastern waters.
Austrian troops have suffered severe reverses in Servia,
Turkey has taken complete possession of the German cruisers Goeben and Breslau. The cruisers have been renamed
and manned with Turkish crews.
