PANAMA CANAL OPENED.
OFFICIAL TRIP IN 11 HOURS.

•Nkw York, August 16. Tub Panama Canal has been informally opened. The United States War Departpartment'ft ship Ancon made the trip through the canal from the Atlantic Ocean to tho Pacific Ocean, taking eleven hours for tho passage. Colonel 0. W. Goethals, builder of the canal, stood on tho bridge of the vessel with tho President of the Panama Republic, Dr. Bolisario Poms beside him. Vessels diawing 30ft. or less may now pass through the canal.
