[or TELEGRAPH.—rRESS association.]
Wellington, Sunday.
Tho following items of war news have been received by the Government : —
Russia has mobilised 2,000,000 troops cm tho German frontier and the same number on the Austrian frontier, besides 500,000 on the Turkish, and 500,000 on the Roumanian frontiers. All are ready to act. Tho enemy's offensive movement has been momentarily arrested.
The fears entertained as to confusion in tbo French concentration have been definitely dispelled. All rumours of returned wounded and British ships disabled are baseless.
The insurance of cargoes on the Atlantic, and in the Far East is lower.
A surprise attack was originally contemplated in tho direction of Nancy, but owing to the strength of the French advance it wag abandoned. The resistance of tho Belgian forts resulted in the detention of the Germans for eight days on the lino of tho Meuse. Consequently the French have been able to mobilise and concentrate without hindcrance.
