■In addition to the Central Fund total of £11,942, the first contribution, totalling £3000, subscribed to the Herald Patriotic Fund has been handed, over to the Citizens' Committee.

'A house-to-house canvass will be made at Onshunga to-day and to-morrow to take up subscriptions towards the Patriotic Fund. 4 Referring to tie satisfactory position of the fund, the Mayor said yesterday that in bo city in New Zealand, nor did he be-even-in such a large city as Sydney, could there-be found -such an example of patriotic generosity as characterised the citizens of Auckland during the last few days, This large sum had been voluntarily subscribed in three'days and as yet the actual work of' canvassing had scarcely begun. : It proved that Auckland was a, wealthy city and that its citizens always responded with generous hearts to their duty in. times of stress and difficulty. He wished' to give his hearty thanks to the tubscribers who had given so well. The
