(From the HERALD of August .14, 1864.) Amongst the recent inventions for locomotion which have attracted considerabjo attention in England, traction engines occupy a- considerable place. Various attempts have been made to adapt the steam engine to travelling on ordinary turnpike roads, ard these attempts have been followed w.h more or less success. After succesai. 3 experiments, it was found practicable to run locomotives at a moderate speed, ai. 1 carrying considerable weights, along vtt 1-metallcd roads; and we understand gevoral of the!* traction engines aro how in use in England.
