Sydney, August 11.

Melbourne's expeditionary force will comprise one light horse brigade and one infantry division. Volunteers are being brought to the barracks from all parts of the State.

Victoria and New South Wales will contribute a brigade each, and the other States a battalion of 1000 men, to form a third brigade.

Squatters are offering horses for tho expeditionary force. A number of ministers have volunteered to accompany the men.

It is probable that tho Dean of Sydnoy will act as senior chaplain.

The Federal Premier, Mr. Joseph Cook, speaking at a Mayoral luncheon, said the financial institutions of Australia were . sound. The Government intended seeing them through, and to sec all workmen through the crisis. He believed it to be a most righteous war.'

The City Council has voted £500, and the Adelaide Racing Club has decided to contribute half its profits from the Grand National Meeting, to the war fund.

The chairman of the Australian Jockey Club, in Sydney, will submit to the annual meeting a proposition to donate £10,000 for patriotic purposes.

The Mayors of Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide have opened war funds.
