FIFTY YEARS AGO.
"PEACE AT ANY PRICE."
OBJECTIONS TO THE WAR.
(From the Hebald of August 12, 1864.) We have read occasionally extracts from the letters of military men reflecting in no very measured , terms on the ' continuance of the war in New Zealand, and we have seen statements that the principle of the war is viewed with abhorrence by the officers and men of Her Majesty's forces. This belief is sedulously fostered by the peaee-at-any-price party in Auckland, but we need scarcely add that it is a libel upon the colony and the Imperial Government, whose policy with 'respect to the carrying on of tho war is almost identical, and that it is a gross and scandalous charge against the British soldier.
