THE ADVANCE GUARD.

AUCKLAND CONTINGENT.

IRRIVAL AT WELLINGTON.

QUARTERED ON STEAMERS. [Br TELEGRAPH— CORBESFONDENT.]

Wellington, Tuesday.

The special troop train from Auckland arrived at Wellington at 11.30 to-day. The men, who were in excellent spirit*,

were lined up on tho roadway and tho platform in double file. After standing at ease for an hour they were marched on to the Moeraki at the King's Wharf, but they were later dismissed and camo ashore.

Although a long one, the train was very crowded, and the consequence was that the occupants had to sit upright all night and were unable to sleep. In spite of this, no complaint was heard. At some of the wayside stations en

route they received warm receptions, the local bands being brought out to play them on their way.

The men on the average appear to be older than the Wellington quota.
