In connection with the East Coast railway, the loop-line across the Hauraki Plains, known as the Pokeno-raeroa line, will save about 44 miles between Auckland and Gisborne. This fact is pointed out m the annual report of the Auckland Railways League. The line, besides shortening the distance,will effect a saying in haulage power as tho greater part of it will be over level ground. Another advance oi it* construction would be the relieving of the threatened congestion of traffic at Frankton Junction.
