In connection with the East Coast railway, the loop-line across the Hauraki Plains, known as the Pokeno-raeroa line, will save about 44 miles between Auckland and Gisborne. This fact is pointed out m the annual report of the Auckland Railways League. The line, besides shortening the distance,will effect a saying in haulage power as tho greater part of it will be over level ground. Another advance oi it* construction would be the relieving of the threatened congestion of traffic at Frankton Junction. It might obviate for many years the necessity already foreseen by the Railway Department of duplicating the whole lino between Auckland and Frankton, ' . '■ •
