Ihk principal Rugby Union matches played in tho province on Saturday were those between the Thames and Auckland representatives at Thames, and Clifton and University, champions of the Taranaki and Auckland provinces respectively. CLIFTON V. UNIVERSITY. The game between the Clifton and Cniverisity Clubs was played on No. 1 ground at Eden Park. Tho ground was in fair order. Clifton won the toss, and decided to play frith tho sun and wind at their back?, lne ball was kicked oft at 3.3,'). Early in the sama a sensational head-on collision occurred between V. Tate and Lambert. Both were disabled end left the field. Tate, who had sustained a scalp wound, did not return. The Taranaki forwards showed superiority to •he local pack. THIRD GRADE. Marist Brothers defeated Remuera by 9 points to 3.

FOURTH GRADE. Pamell defeated Marist Brothers, by 20 points to 0.

FIFTH GRADE.

Ponsonby defeated Grafton by 3 points toO. City defeated Parnell by 14 points to 0.

PUBLIC SCHOOL MATCHES.

A Grade: Devonport and Vermont Street drew; Newton East defeated Onehungaj and Berosford Street defeated Ponsonby. Devonport ha 3 won tho grade championship. B Grade: Napier Street defeated Normal School; Newton West defeated Bayfield; Epsom defeated Mount Albert; and Avondale defeated Richmond Road. Newton Wjsfc has won the grado championship. C Grade.: Ellorslie beat Nelson Street; Maungawhau beat Newmarket;, and Point Chevalier beat Mount Roskill. _ Ellerslie has won the grade championship. The results of to-day's Rugby matches are as follows:— beat Athletic, by 11 points to 6; Wellington beat University, by 9 points to 5; Petone beat Melrose, by 15 points to 10; Poneke ,won from St. James's, by default. Wellington and Athletic aro now level for the championship with 20 points each, Petone being next with 16.

Christchttrch, Saturday.

The annual match between Canterbury and South Canterbury was played to-day, but did not provide a good exhibition of football, Canterbury won by 12 points to 6. The match between the Christchuroh and Timaru High School teams was played at Lancaster Park to-day. The Christchnrch •team won by 12 points to 10.

DUOTDEf, Sunday. Eaikorai obtained a win over University by 6 points to 6, thus winning the banner by 2 points. Half the proceeds are being handed over to the Cricket Association's coach fund. There was a very large crowd, lbs receipts amountine to £250.

Two representative Northern Union games *ere played at the Domain in fine weather on Saturday, between Auckland A and B teama and Waikato and Rotorua. respectively, !The curtain-raiser, Rotorua v. the B team, ■was a fiasco, but the Waikato players put up a good fight. Tho first division matches of the Auckland Football Association were continued on Saturday in frao weather. Thistlo defeated Everton and still maintains its lead for the championship. Tho Auckland junior representative team met and defeated tho Whangarei representatives by 2 goals to 1.

NORTH SHORE V. CARLTON. I The North Shore and Carlton teams met at Devonport, the former winning by 11 goals to 1. Carlton played two men short. THISTLE V. EVERTON. The Thistle and Everton teams met on Saturday, when the former won by 2 coals, scored by Callander and Baker, to 1, scored by Pitkin.

BROTHERHOOD V. CORINTHIAN.

! Brotherhood and Corinthian met at Bayswater. Brotherhood, before half-lime, had four goals to their credit, all scored by Knaggs. After change of onds, Brotherhood scored four more goals, two being notched by Knaggs and one each by F. Pearson and Cocken. Brotherhood won by 8 goals to 0. Corinthian oniy had eight men. AUCKLAND JUNIORS V. WHANGAREL . A very oven and exciting game resulted from the representative match played between Auckland junior representatives and Whangarei, at Bayswater, on Saturday. Tho Whangarei team aro well built, and were much bigger in size than tho Auckland players. Mutton obtained Auckland's first goal after consistent attacking by the Auckland front rank. Before the interval Lockwood obtained the second from a nicolyjudged pass from Baker. In tie second spell the visitors met with more success, and were unlucky in not mating a draw. Halfway through the spell Mogeford reduced the lead with a clever goal. The game, right to call of lime, was fast and exciting, but at the finish the score was: Auckland 2, Whangarei 1.
