TRADE WITH AMERICA

THE STEAMER SERVICES.

DELPHIC FOR NEW YORK.

OTHER VESSELS MAY FOLLOW.

There is every indication of an extensive trade developing between Now Zealand and America. For some months past a steamer has been despatched from Wellington at regular intervals for Boston and New York with full cargoes of frozen meat and other Australian and Dominion produce. In most cases these vessels have commenced their loading in Australia, proceeding thence to either Wellington or Lyttelton to complete. The service up to the present time has been conducted by the Federal Shire lino, which has employed, some of the largest vessels in its fleet The announcement has just been made that tho Shaw, Savill and Albion lino will also commence to despatch its steamers from New Zealand to New York and London at regular intervals. Tho local agonts advise that the cargo steamer Delphic, which visited this port a few weeks ago, with general cargo from Liverpool, will be the first vessel to load in New Zealand on behalf of the line. The Delphic will shortly commence to load frozen meat and other lines at various ports. She will visit Auckland early in August, and in all probability will make this her final loading port, sailing about August 7. Should there be sufficient inducement, the Delphic will be followed at monthly intervals by other vessels of the line.

Tho steamor Kent, which sailed yesterday for Wellington, was the first steamer to load .at Auckland for Boston and New York under the auspices of the FederalShire line. The Kent had been in Australian waters for some time before coming to Auckland, and she, consequently, loaded a quantity of cargo at Townsvliie and Sydney. She shipped 2025 packages of kauri gum, 1000 quarters of beef, 42 carcaws of veal, 10 bales of wool, 149 bales of flax, 260 sacks of hides, and several other small lines at Auckland, but had the vesuel had more available space she would have loaded a much larger quantity. The next steamer to load at Auckland under the Federal-Shire line will be the Sussex, which is due about August 10. She will be followed three weeks later by tho new cargo steamer Hororata, of over 10,600 gross tons. The Hororata is expected about the end of August, and both vessels will complete their loading at a Southern port.
