FIRES IN THE COUNTRY.
LARGE HOUSE DESTROYED.

Te Aroha, Monday. A house of 13 rooms, owned by Hardy's Mines, Ltd., and occupied by tho manager, Mr. W. Greening, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday night. The outbreak originated at the back of tbe house, and had a strong hold before Mrs. Greening and a lady friend, the only occupants at the time, discovered it. Only a few personal effects were saved. The furniture was insured for £150 in the Royal Office. The amount of insurance on the building iis not available. A valuable collection of books was destroyed. OUTBREAK AT WADII. [by TELKGRATH. —OWN correspondent.] Waihi, Monday. A four-roomed dwelling in Connell 'Street, occupied by Mr. E. Howse, was , destroyed by fire this afternoon, together with tho greater part of the furniture and effects. The fire brigade responded i promptly to the call, but, owing to the low pressure of water and the high wind : which prevailed, it could do but littlo to suppress the outbreak. Sparks from a copper in tho yard aro believed to be the cause of the outbreak, Tho furniture was insured in the Northern Office for £80 and the building in the Royal Exchange Assurance Office for £110. The house was owned by the mother of the tenant.
