BOY IMMIGRANTS.
NEW SOUTH WALES POLICY.
[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
SmvET, July 8. Om; of the most noticeable announcements made by the Premier of New South Wales in outlining his policy for the coming
session was in regard to immigration. The
Government will seek to secure in tho Old y Country desirable lads of good health and reputation, aged from 16 to 20 years, who will be brought out as assisted immigrants and trained in. farm work to the end that they may becomo independent farmer's, here. In deciding upon this policy the Government has boon influenced by circumstances in Great Britain as well as by local exigencies. It has been found thai the drain upon Great Britain in recent years lor agriculturists and agricultural labourers desired in new countries hue, been so great that the supply approaches exhaustion, Of late Government assistance to immigrants, hr.fi done little more than bring here people who swell the already too heavy proportion of city dwellers. At the same time labour organisations'have been complaining about Government funds being employed to entice to Australia people who become needy ■ competitors for employment in towns to the great anxiety of unionists. Mr. Eolman states that as far a* New South .i Wale? is concerned the policy of assisted " immigration will he confined almost entirely to young fellows of the class mentioned, and that there will be a steady refusal to assist people who will help only to build up the population of the large towns.
