EX-VOLUNTEERS'GRIEVANCE
NO OFFICAL RECOGNITION.
WILL JOIN NATIONAL RESERVE.
Thk following interesting resolution was adopted on Saturday night by a meeting of tho old Garrison Artillery Volunteers, on the motion of Captain Baragawanath: —That the ex-members of the Ponsonby Naval Artillery Volunteers, latterly No. 8, No. 2, and No. 6 Companies New Zealand Garrison Artillery Volunteers, form a branch of the Now Zealand -National Reserve, and that the committee appointed to conduct the present reunion, together with proposer of this resolution, be a committee of management until such time as the branch is taken over by the committee of the reserve appointed for the Auckland district in accordance with the regulations laid down by law.
Captain Baragawanath stated that the committee deemed tho occasion to bo a fitting one to bring before those present the miestion of establishing amongst the old members of the corps a more permanent and more useful bond of comradeship than could bo achieved by the annual reunion. It was lamentable that very few of those present, although they had voluntarily served thoir country for many years and were thoroughly efficient, wore entitled to go on parade as part of the military forces of the Dominion. It made old volunteers very soro when ono of their comrades died and was buried as a private, citizen, and they could not give him a "send-off" in true military fashion. The main idea of the scheme was the moral influenco upon territorials. "If some of these young territorials," added tho speaker, " knew that men who know something of the game were watching and taking an interest in them, there would not be so much fooling on pamde or so many spectacles of men in uniform under tho "influence of liquor." The resolution was seconded by Bombardier W. .Toynt, and carried unanimously. Steps will bo taken immediately to form a branch of the National Reserve
