STABBING ALLEGED.
QUARRELSOME MAORIS.
WOUNDED IN THE NEOK. [BT telegbafh.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Tfl Ktjiti, Friday. A Maori named Kati was charged at the Police • Court to-day with assaulting' another Maori named Peter Wi, and causing him actual bodily harm. The accused was remanded for a week, on the application of Sergeant Rowell, who explained that; the injured man was still in rather a bad state! It appears that the accused and some other Maoris were drinking together, when an. altercation took place between the accused and the injured man.
In a struggle, it is alleged, a knife was used, Peter Wi being stabbed in two places in the neck. He is expected to recover.
Kati was also charged with the theft of 12s 6d, the property of another Maori. It is alleged that he was commissioned to procure a bottle of whisky from a grogseller for 12s 6d. He took the money and failed to bring the whisky.
A fine and costs amounting to £4 6s was inflicted, or, in default, 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour.
