FATAL PRACTICAL JOKE.

SIR DENIS ANSON'S DEATH.

DIVE INTO STRONG CURRENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.

London, July 8. At the inquest into the death of Sir Denis Anson, who was drowned from a launch in the Thames, Miss Iris Tree and others gave evidence that all on the launch were perfectly sober. Sir Denis Anson exhibited youthful vivacity, and was amusing himself generally. He climbed and walked along the awning rail, the captain compelling him to descend. He then mounted a seat, dived in, and swam towards the shore. They heard him shouting " Quickly! Quickly!" and thereupon Mitchell, the orchestra player, who also lost his life, attempted to rescue him, but disappeared in the strong current.

Tho jury was satisfied that Sir Denis Anson was sober. The party aboard included Lady Diana Manners and Miss Nancy Ounard.

Counsel announced that the Anson family was providing /for Mitchell's widow and child.

A verdict of accidental death was returned. The coroner paid a tribute to the outstanding heroism of Mitchell and of Count Benckenjdorff.'
