FATAL FALL INTO HOLD
AN ENGINEER'S, DEATH.
FATALITY ON MAKARINI.
The third engineer'of the steamer Makarini, Ernest Austin, died last night as the
result- of injuries received from a fall into
tho vessel's hold yesterday morning.
No one saw the mishap occur, but apparently Austin fell through tho shelter-
deck hatchway to the bottom of the hold, j a distance of about. 30ft. When a waterside worker removed the top-deck hatch he saw Austin lying some 50ft below, and j immediately summoned aid. I
Austin was taken to the hospital, where lie died last night without regaining consciousness. Ho was a native of llford, England, and was a married man, with one child.
