ATTITUDE OF CITY COUNCIL

The City Council intimated that it would nit bo prepared to accept dedication of EiVy Street for 12 month.'. The City Council, it was resolved, should be asked to reconsider its decision, for thci thrco following reasons:— (1) That the area in question was reclaimed by dry filling five years ago and is thoroughly consolidated; (2) that the road work had been completed. accenting to the requirements of the Citv Council, and (3) that tho boaid's leasees are entitled to dedicated roads. The chairman considered that the City Council was under a misapprehension in regard to tho matter.

WAIKATO APPEAL REFUSED

T!w Waikato Biter Board desired tho Harbour Board to assist it in its endeavour to have iho order of reference of tho Inland Waterways Commission extended. The writers aro asking tho Minister to include in tho order of reference tlio improvement of the Waikato River by confining the water to more definite channels, and tho improvement likely to take place in the 3wa:np lands through th<> bettor drainage resulting from the proposed works of the Waijato RiveT Board. DUES ON MAIL BOATS

In accordance with the decision of the committee it was resolved to inform the Wellington Board thai, as any payment by the Auckland Board would lit present be untsihoriscd tlio board regretted that it could not accede to the request If the Wellington Board would move to have the l Auckland Board joined as a party to the defence in the Privy Council, the latter would offer no objection. Tho engineer's fortnightly report stated that rapid progress had been made with Quay Street East extension, which should be finished, as far as the board could go, in two to throe months' time. The spring fender piles at the King's Wharf, it was considered, should be in position towards tho end of July, while the ferry shelters had been completed. A launch for Mamikau Harbour had been delivered, and had completed it« trial runs successfully. The request of tho Northcoto Borough Council to be allowed to erect a septic tank at Northcoto was agreed to, subject to several safe-guarding provisions, which had for their object the preservation of the cleanliness of the harbour.

An appeal for a donation towards a fund for the purchase of a motor a-i::*»-lance was mado by tho Auckland Water' side Workers' Union. The appeal was referred ho a committee.
