The Catholic Federation at its annual meeting last night carried a resolution protesting against the proposed referendum on Bible reading in schools as a violation of the rights of conscience of a large section of citizens, an injustice to teachers and an iniquitous proposal to tax all peoplo for the teaching of a religion acceptable to certain denominations only.

One of tho speakers at a largo meeting hold last night urged the sending of a large donation of Roman Catholics from all parte of Now Zealand to march to Parliament as the prohibition party had done, to protest Against the platform of the Bibie-in-Schoolfl League, There were, tho speaker said, about 10,000 persons in Taranaki who objected to the violation of rights of conscience, and he felt sure that 100 objectors from Taranaki alone would make a sacrifice to attend such a deputation. The suggestion was adopted with enthusiasm. RESOLUTION OF PROTEST. PREMIER TO BE APPROACHED. At a gathering of Roman Catholics of the Remucra district, held yesterday, it was decided to send copies of the following resolution to the Prime Minister, the Minister for Education, and each of the Auckland members: "On behalf of the Catholic residents of Romuera, affiliated with the New Zealand Catholic Federation, we respectfully desire to request that you will do your utmost from your place in Parliament to oppose the proposal to take a referendum of tho. people of New Zealand on the Bible-in-schools question. We protest that a question which affects intimate personal rights of conscience and religions freedom is not, and should not bo made, a matter of voting by people of all creeds or of no owed, and that such voting is entirely out of place in a democratic conntry like Now Zealand."
