AMERICAN CITY FIRE.
ONLY TWO LIVES LOST.
MEASURES FOR RELIEF.
FOOD AND TENTS PROVIDED. " . . $ By Telesr&ph—Press Association—'Copyright. (Received June 28, 6.5 p.m.) New York, Juno 27. The insurance adjusters estimate the losses in the Salem fire covered by insurance at from £2,000,000 to £2,400,000. Although many were injured in the fire only two deaths have been reported. Before the flames were fairly checked relief measures and plans for rebuilding were under way. The State Governor announced that tents for 10,000 and rations would be shipped to the city, and at once issued a call for a public meeting in Boston to take further measures.
The result of these relief measures will be that the homeless of the, poorer classes, who are mostly foreigners will be provided with tents. Over 3500 are directly dependent upon the relief committee, while 4500 waited in the bread lines yesterday, and received a share of the food which is flowing in freely.
