What New Zealand goldfields have cost lYk jria.—lt is made out by tables of tie arrivals and departures of peoples to and from New Zealand, from September, 1861, to D.cember, 1863, inclusive, that do less than 60,161, of whom 57,393 were adult males, left Victoria for Now Zealand, end of these only 22,830, of whom 21,788 were adult males, have roturned, leaving a balance against Victoria of 37,331. During the samo period, there have been engaged in the passenger trade between the two colonies 340 sailing vessels and 18 6teamers, Kauri Timber.—lt is. rumoured that a discovery has been made in China that kauri timber is the only sort not liable to the attack of the worm which is so rapidly destructive of all other timber in that country, and, therefore, we may tope that thero will be a large trade in iuturo with China for kauri timber.
