MAN SAVES ANOTHER'S LIFE.
A man' named Frederick Stubbington I dived from tfio parapet of Queen's Bridge, Melbourne, into the Yarra, a distance of about 50ft, last week, and rescued Elmir Olaen, a Norwegian, and' ship's fireman. Both men, singularly enough, were out of employment. -Stubbington, who was in search of employment, was passing over the bridge on his way from South Melbourne to tho city, when ho saw tho commotion caused by Olsen' a fall into tin) water, and -running into the crowd of people watching the "man struggling in tho water below them, Stubbington jumped on to the parapet, and the next momont started out on a header in the 'direction of Olfieit. "
When he came to the surface, Stubbington grabbed Olson, a much bigger man than himself, and held him till -a motor launch took him on board. Swimming to the'shore, Stubbington clambered up the bank, and resumed possession of his overcoat from a*stranger frho' was' holding it, and went away, refusing to give the police his name. Subsequently, however, his identity was established. When complimented on his bravo action Stubbington replied': "It was the natural thing to do.
