As steps have been taken already in other centres, and committees have been formed to prepare for the visit of Mr. Davidge, it is hoped that a representative committee of citizens will be formed in Auckland on tfie lines of those already at. work in Wellington, Christchui'ch. and Dunedin. Replying to a resolution recently passed by tint City Council suggesting that free passes should be supplied to Messrs. C. 0. Heady and W. 1!. Duvidgo, the General Manager for Railways (Mr. E. H. A letter was received by the council from Mr. ]?eade asking it to grant £25 towards the expenses of the lecturers. Mr. A. J. Entrican moved that the grant bo made, subject, to the Auditor-General intimating that the amount will not be charged' to unauthorised expenditure. Pee ing that members were being charged for surcharges, the council thought it should be very careful in authorising grants. Members did not want to be putting their hands into their own pockets to pay for functions and works of a public nature, such as had been tho case. Mr. A. Hall Skelton seconded the. motion, which was carried.
