AUSTRALIAN STORM.
HAVOC AMONG SHIPPING. STEAMER WRECKED. RIVERINA LEAVES SYDNEY, By TelegTftph— Association—Copyright. (Received Jute 18. 8.85 p.m.) Sydney, June 18. The Riverina got away this morning. The steamer Novelty, of 194 tons, built in Auckland in 1909, has been wrecked at Lake Macquarie Heads. All hands were saved. After 36 hours battling with tie storm the Wakatipu returned to port badly battered, with her rudder broken, and her life-boats and deck fittings smashed. During the storm a baby was born aboard. The sailing vessels which grounded in Newcastle Harbour arc still aground, and havo been considerably damaged by the heavy sea. All shipping is sheltering. The Wakatipu had a trying experience. For six hours she was out of control, wallowing in a tremendous sea, with great waves breaking aboard. Much water found its way into the cabins and stokehold, and eventually she beat her way back into port.
