AVONDALE ROAD BOARD.

TnK fortnightly meeting of the abovs board was held on Wednesday. Mr. JPotter presided, the other members present being: Messrs. F. Walker. G. Curd. D. B. Russell, J. Fell, F. Hampshire, and W. J. Tait.

The clerk (Mr. Valla nee. intimated that ho purposed resigning the positions of clerk and returning officer. Ho was asked to reconsider his decision.

Notification was received from the Railway Department that it) was prepared to erect warning notices tor the special use of motor-vehicle drivers in Avondale, provided the Road Board would keep them in repair. Memh-rs generally considered this was a rat- >nal affair, and did not take kindly to the keeping of Government property in repair, and it was resolved to decline the oiler. Some time ago Mr. Curd a.nd other owners of property on the. Metbuen haniift sent in a plan of proposed sub division of the property into slightly less than quar-ter-acre, sections. To mate up for the deficiency of the few feet under W>« board's by-law, the owners have arrange'' tho sections in such a manner that the board's minimum frontage is enlargedThe board sent the plan bark with a suggestion that the owners endoavour to so cut up the block that the by-laws may bo complied with. The owners seat a further letter asking that the original plan may bo accepted. Considerable discussion took place, and the. application was refused. A lotter from Mr Gordon, on behalf of Roberton Road residents, asking for £10" for formation work on that road, led to considerate discussion.
