~ • ' ' ' London, May 19. The death is announced of Captain G. Lucas, the last survivor of the troopship Birkenhead.

The Birkenhead was wrecked on February 26, 1862, off Danger Point, midway between Cape of Good Hope and Capo Agulhas.".. It pro\ed impossible to find places in : the boats ' for the troops' that. were on board, and when all hope was abandoned the soldiers, in full uniform, were lined up on deck, and went down with the ship. The incident is commemorated in a famous picture.
