I TANG I.

The manager of : ' the Woitangi mine, Tararu, reporting on the past, week's operations in the mine, states that the drive west on the main Teef in the No. 4 level is along 137 ft from the main crosscut. The reef is carrying good minerals. No. 2 rise is now completed and everything is ready for passing quartz from No. 3 level to No. 4 level. A start will be made as soon as possible to continue this rise from No. 3 level to No. 2 level. At No. 2 level crosscutting through ths reef is now in progress 50ft west of the No. 1 crosscut. 1 A.start has been made, to break quartz in the No. 1 crosscut. A samplo of ore was taken for a width of 4ft, and gave the assay value of £2 lis per ton. , A picked sample gave the assay value of £19 13s 6d per ton. A third sample was taken from the hangingwall portion of the reef } close to the No. 1 crosscut, and gave an assay value of £2 10s 8d per ton.

WAIHI WARDEN'S COURT.

ENGLISH SYNDICATE OPERATING. BY TIMOR* PH.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] Waihi, Tuesday. A sitting of the Warden's •Court was held to-day, when James Webb Blackman, of Masterton, representing an English syndicate, made application through counsel (Mr. E. W. Porritt). for a certificate of protection of the Waihi, Prince, and Waihi Princess special quartz claims. In support of the application, counsel produced documentary evidence in the shape of cablegrams, letters, and reports setting out the scheme for prospecting the properties proposed by the syndicate. The source of the application, he said, was a wealthy Home combination of investors, who were prepared to expend . a large amount of capital in exploiting the auriferous areas they had secured on the eastern portion of the Waihi field. The first action decided upon was to apply immediately for the use of the Government diamond drill with the object of putting down a vertical bore of 2000 ft. The warden (Mr. F. J. Burgess) said that ho had not heard such encouraging reports concerning these claims for a long time, and that he would be pleased to recommend the Minister to grant the application for protection.

WAIOTAHI. Reporting for the past week the manager of the Waiotahi mine, Thames, states that the shaft is down 919 ft from the surface, leaving lift of further sinking to connect with the rise and 104 ft to complete to the 1000 ft level. A drill-hole has been put through the rise, and thus tho water has been allowed to escape.

WATCHMAN. The manager of the Watchman mine, Thames, reports that three stopes are in hand on the middle Parallel reef, and the quartz for the past week has been showing gold freely. The east Parallel reef maintains its size of about 2jrft wide. Although no gold has been seen in the stone sulphides and zinc blende are showing freely, and the ore is of good grade.

OCCIDENTAL. Stoping'operations on the No. 2 reef in tho Occidental mine, Thames, the manager reports, were continued during the past week, and a fair amount of ore was broken out. Though no picked stone was obtained gbld could be seen in most of the ore. ,In some of the ore good coarse dabs of gold were seen. The reef in. the south drive is from ,6in to 12in wideband is in fairly good country. .

NOTES. The low.level tunnel in the Dominion mine, Karangaha.ke. is now in 1298 ft. The country is still of a good firm, andesite, with, numerous quartz veins traversing itWater is still issuing from the face. . Since the manager's last report the Magazine tunnel in the Kuranui mine, Thames, has been advanced a further 12ft. The country in the face is a firm class of andesite, with numerous quartz stringers crossing the facn.
