MAINTENANCE CASES.

WIFE SECURES AN ORDER.

The sittings of the Police Court yesterday were presided over by Mr. E; Page, S.M. ! Albert Edward Moxey, assistant, was proceeded against by his wife, Kathleen Alice Norah Moxey, who asked that a maintenance order for the payment of £2 a week be made against him. . Mr. Vallance appeared for the applicant, and indicated that the marriage 'took place at Newton on April 15 last. ;• Applicant said defendant had made no provision for maintenance, or for a home for; her. She had asked him: for money several times, but he always said that he had none. :

A sentence of seven days' imprisonment was imposed, the warrant to be suspended as long as defendant pays off lie arrears by weekly payments of £1. For disobeying an order for the payment of 5s a week towards the support of his wife, William Henry Saunders was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided the arrears (£7) are reduced by 10s a week. He complained that he had not been able to meet the order. . FOUND ON A SCHOONER. James Long was charged with being arogue and a vagabond, haying being found, by night on the schooner Crete. Long admitted that he was aboard the vessel. ; It appeared that accused had worked his passage on the schooner from a coastal port to Auckland. . A' female first offender was fined 10s' for a breach of her prohibition order, and on a charge of insobriety she was ordered to pay the cost of cab-hire, 2s 6d.
