DUMPING STATION.

CITY COUNCIL APPROACHED.

Arrive on behalf of the Mount Eden and Mount Albert Borough Councils, the district health officer (Dr. R. H. Makgill) wrote to the City Council last night, asking for information as to whether the council would be prepared to leaso a portion of its reserve at Motion's Creek, on the.Grey Lynn side of the- boundary dividing the' property. The purpose of the lease, ho explained, was for the erection of a dump for transmitting refuse to the Archhill Gully sewer. The Acting-Mayor, Mr. A. J. Entrican, considered a reply should be sent to the effect that tho council thought each district should dump its sewage within its own boundaries. 7Tifi Auckland City and Suburban Drainage Board, he pointed out. had practically connected up each district with the drainage system, and he failed to see why tho city's property should be used as a dumping station for any of the surrounding districts. He moved that a letter to this effect be forwarded to Dr. Makgill. Mr. Hall Skelton said he must opposo such a motion, a* Mount Eden had no ground for the purpose of a dumping station. Mr. Entrican : This proposal is to.dump not into the ground, but into the main sower. Mr. Skelton : Is there any objection to that while they are making their local connections? Mr. Entrican: The carting of this refuse into our district would be most objectionable, especially wlien it can be placed in the districts' own sewers. Ultimately the letter was referred to the Works Committee.
