•" AMERICAN EXEMPTION. PRESIDENTIAL OPINION.' ; OPPOSITION TO REPEAL. By Telegraph— Asaociati «•— Copyright. !Hccs;rsd liiaicli 24, 10.15 p.m.) Washington, March 24. In answer to an objection to the repeal of the Panama Canal tolls, President .Wilson said yesterday that the exemption of American vessels was not consistent with the Democratic platform. He pointed out that the Exemption Bill v.as carried only with the aid of the Republican votes. The President expects the support of 200 Democrats when the House votes on the subject. Reuter's correspondent states that stubborn opposition has arisen in the House against the repeal of the tolls. A peculiar feature is that Mr. Champ Clark, the Speaker, Mr. Underwood, • and other politicians, who 'usually support the Administration, are now opposing the repeal.
