MINISTER WITH £165,000.
MR. ATMORE'S CHARGE. MR; HERRIES NOT GUILTY. [bt TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Chiiistchtjbch, Tuesday. The actual facts in relation to Mr. H. Atmore's statement that his remarks at Hastings concerned a legacy left to the Hon. W. H. Henries, and not to the Prime . Minister, are now available. At Hastings Mr. Aimore said that Mr. Massey's father had left him £165,000. When confronted with this statement at Nelson, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Atmore said he had l>een misrecorded, and that his charge concerned the Hon. W. H. Herries* In referring to this affair, the Prime Minister said yesterday that he had received a telogram from Mr. Hemes on the subject. This message stated that Mr. Atmore was " the very limit," and Mr. Herries proceeded to say that his father had died in 1869 and had left him a sum of £4000. This was not sufficient to keep him in England, arid so he had brought himself and lb is capital to New Zealand.
