BEHIND THE SCENES.
CHORUS GIRL AND MANAGER. A scene on the stage at the Marlborough' Theatre was described at Clerkenwell Police Court recently, Alex. Mee, the stage manager of the theatre, being summoned by Winifrd Snell, a chorus girl, who charged him with assault. Miss Snell said she was waiting behind the curtain with other members of the company when Mr. Mee ordered her off the stage and roughly pushed her as aha did not comply. She denied that she was making fun of him. Another chorus girl began her evidence by saving that Miss Snell at the time, was "carrying her head in her hand." "What!" exclaimed th) magistrate. It was explained that the "head" was for a goose part in the pantomime at the theatreMr. Meee said chorus girls were gener-. ally high-spirited, and discipline had to be maintained. The complainant was a troublesome girl and full of antics. The girls were making & noise in a scene set behind another scene, and a performer had complained., The witness called for silence, and Miss Snell imitated him. He' tojd her to leave the stage, and she refused. He used no more force than was necessary. . "With forty girlsv discipline was necessary." The Magistrate: Sounds rather like the German Army. Mr. Garroway (defending): Well, girls ; will b* girls. A ohorus girl called for the defence said that Mr. Mee was "good as managers went." Mr. d'Eyncourt said the assault, if any, ' must have been slight. He could see the necessity for discipline. He dismissed the i summons.
