MOUNT WELCOME.

20lb OF PICKED STONE.

Late on Wednesday evening the manager of the Mount Welcome mine, Coromandel, telegraphed as follows : —" Have broken down the reef in No. 2 winze. The reef is carrying strong blotches, colours, and dabs of gold in the western end."' Yesterday afternoon the manager telegraphed further, as follows :— Secured about 201b of picked stone in the No. 2 winze. Blotches of gold are left showing." WAIHT. the manager of the Wa-ilii mines has *sent the following cablegram to London : No. 10 Level.— lode west: At 816 ft, the lode is 13ft wide, value per ton 4s Id. The manager of the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, reporting on operations during the past week, states that the north drive at the intermediate level was extended lift. The reef is still about 12in wide, and at the last breakingdown showed strong dabs of gold. In the stope going south from the new rise a fine body of stone is now showing. It is fully 24ft wide. Strong seams of fine gold and coarse dabs are freely seen in the ore. In the stope going north from the main rise the reef is mostly 12in wide, but for a short distance it is 2ft wide, and is good, payable ore. KURANUI. The magazine crosscut in the Kuranui mine, Thames, the manager reports, was advanced 12ft during the rjast week. The country in the face is a firm class of andesite, with several small breaks, and mineral seams crossing the face. Driving west on the- No." 3 leader has been advanced Bft for the week. The country is of a disturbed nafeuire. The leader is small, but is carrying a good class of minerals. This leader will in future be known as No. 3.
