GREY LYNN'S SCHEME. |§ IMPROVING ALL STREETS. ■ GKEATEE AUCKLAND QUESTION. 1 Geet Lynn is one of the most thicklypopulated suburbs of Auckland, but its streets at present are not in a satisfactory condition. This fact has been long, recognised by the present members of the Borough Council, and several weeks ago they drew up proposals for the improvement of the district, involving an outlay of £98,000. Since then the council has met at regular intervals in order to go carefully into the scheme. Last evening a special meeting of the council was held, when the details of the proposed loan -were finally settled. The original proposals were amended in some directions, with the result that it is now proposed to raise the sum of £100.000. The proposals will involve an outlay of £66,550 on streets improvement; supply, ing sanitary appliances, £7500; erection of refuse destructor, £5000; Surrey II ills Park improvements, £3500; swimming baths, Cos's Bay, £5000; extension of water mains, £5000; extension of stono quarry, £500; fire brigade equipment, £1500; purchase of section for the erection of municipal works, £450; engineer's expenses and first year's intesest and cost of raising loan. £5000: total, £100,000. In connection with the streets improvement portion of the scheme, it is proposed to allocate the expenditure as follows:— Kent Street, £220; Pollen Street, £530; Mackelvie Street. £1100;. Surrey Street, £1300; Sussex Street, £1300; Leighton and Tennyson Streets, £1062; Princep and Millias Streets. £1900; Beaconsfield Street, £1000; Grosvenor Street, £760; Elgin Street, £880; Harcourt Street, £800; Northcote Street, £500; Coleridge Street, £883; Crammer Road, £2300; Williamson's Avenue, £2200; Murdoch Road, £1380; Rose Road, £700; Disraeli Street, £1300; Chamberlain Street, £975; Arnold Street, £900; Owen Street. £1800: Farrar Street, £1150. and £900; Selbourne Street, £1600; Browning Street, £900; Campbell Road, £830; Firth Road, £410; Baildon Road, £1000; Allen Road, £600 Coekbum Street, £500: Jessell Road, £500; Tj*anekai Road, £680; Hinemoa Road. £970; Sackville Street, £1500; Westmoreland Street, £130; Warnock Street, £600; Hope Street, £260; Peel Street, £380; Wellpark Avenue, £1200; Maxwell Avenue, £320; Greenwood Avenue, £800; Francis Street, £600; Wilton Street, £760; Salisbury Street, £520; King Street, £1400; Queen Street,. £460- Stanley Street. £280; Princes Street, £260; Richmond Hill % and Richmond Avenue, £2670; Wolseley Road, £4000 and £500; Cox's Bridge Road, £1400; Richmond Road, £2500; road formation, Sackville Street to Hinemoa Road, £1000; road along waterfront, Cox's Bay, £1200; paving Great North Road, Ponsonby Road, and Richmond Road and Richmond Avenue. £10,000.. Total, £66,550. As can be seen from the foregoing -every street in the borough will be put in firstclass condition, thus making for economy in regard to future maintenance. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council it was decided to take a poll of the ratepayers on the loan proposals on Wednesday, April 29. Before "that data the council intends to call public meetings in order to place the whole of the proposals before the ratepayers. It was uecided that a poll on the Greater Auckland question should also be taken on April 29.
