ADDRESS AT WESTPORT.

SOCIALIST SECTION HOSTILE.

[by TELEGRAPH.PRESS association.] Westpobt, Tuesday. The Prime Minister, Right. Hon. W. F. Massey, arrived from Nelson this evening, opening the Mnrchison Show en route. He was welcomed by a large' gathering of citizens who made him the guest at a complimentary dinner. At the conclusion, some speeches were made, and the -Mayor, who presided, presented Miss Massey, whose birthday it happened to be, with a handsome gold Dangle.

Later, Mr. Massey delivered an address at the Irish national concert, and then gave a political address in the theatre before a very 'large gathering. The Prime Minister was subjected to a good deal- of heckling from the Social-Democrat section, but the meeting passed off, on the whole, very satisfactorily, concluding with a vote of thanks and confidence, which was opposed by the federationist section of the audience.

A prominent Oppositionist attempted to speak, but the meeting declined to give him a hearing. *
