UNDER LEAGUE RULES. ' THE AUCKLAND DISPUTE.. '.', DOMINION CONFERENCE PROPOSED When the executive of the Auckland P:Wincial Rugby League was disqualified by the New Zealand Council last seaiion, it I was generally considered the last of thar dispute between the two bodies had nob be'sa heard, and such appears to be the/ cake. Although a new executive has been' formed by representatives of two clubs, the disqualified body has been meeting regularly, and last evening a meeting of all players interested in the League game wao held to discuss the position. Only one dj4j's notice of the meeting had been given, but still there was an attendance ol; between 80 and 100 players, who elected Mr W. Knox to the chair. ilr. Knox briefly reviewed the facts of the dispute which had led to the disqualification of the executive. He outlined the Savory case which he said had been the primary, in fact almost the onlv, ground of the trouble. The present meeting had been called to enable the players t<i decide for themselves what was best to ba done under the circumstances for the gjxjd of the game. He added that if a satisfactory settlement were arrived at, the wining season would be the best that Auckland had yet had. J Mr. G. Hunt, secretary of the old execntjye, said that he had communicated with all the Southern leagues, explaining theexact position, and pointing out that since the executive had been disqualified almost every club in the Auckland Province had expressed its entire confidence in the disqualified body. He had also circularised tha other provinces, suggesting .that a confer-, efcce should be held in Wellington, on March 20 to discuss future prospects of the Northern Union game in New Zealand, and to ehdeavour to place it on a more satisfac tory basis, as it was considered that the time was now opportune when an inter--change of ideas from direct representatives of the various leagues would result in advancing the game and settling any friction which existed. The circular, which: suggested that each league should send: cum direct representative to the conference, further stated that in. the interests' of the game throughout the Dominion it was absolutely imperative that the present trouble in Auckland should be adjusted before the commencement of the coming; ssason. It was suggested that the following: remits from the Auckland League be considered:— The constitution of the Hew Zealand Council; (2) finance and its distribution; (3) the mode of appointing, delegates to the New Zealand Council; (4) the urgency of securing suitable play fag areas; (5) the mode of selecting New Zealand representative players; (6) con-' si deration of the Savory case, and the existing trouble between the Auckland Provincial League and the New Zealand; Council; also any other business, which; ndght be brought forward by the various delegates. .• ~ ... Mr. Hunt said he had received a. reply; from the Canterbury League* which ?sup-i ported the proposal, and had. elected a. delegate. The Southern league further intimated that it had received no informs* tk>n from the , New Zealand Council re* • gardiner the names of the disqualified ■ ex* ecutive or the formation of a new. body.,' After the. reading of the correspondenca it was moved that the meeting should ad-> iourn until next' Friday week,to ensure si larger attendance of players. Before putting the motion, the chairman! remarked that he wished it to be under-i stood that the old executive was nob antagonistic to the council, but to its model of procedure. He added that four members of the council were ineligible to hold! effice as they were not members of any. club, as- required by the rules, and stated! •that the meeting "which disqualified "the Auckland Executive was one short of at quorum.
