NORTHCOTE COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting; pi the Northcote Borough. Council was held last night. Present: Messrs. G. Eraser (Mayor), E. Stilwell J. B. Tonar, A. E. Greenslade, J. T. Fearnley, J. Broady, T. S. Wallace, R. H. P. Hopkins, and H. Crowley. It was decided to support the petition of several residents by facilitating, as far as possible, the formation of a footpath from McKay's Road (opposite the Northcote school) to Little Shoal Bay. The foreman of works was instructed to report upon the cost of improving the formation of Alfred Street, the Works Committee being empowered to act. It was decided to meet the Birkenhead Council in conference in the Birkenhead chambers nest Tuesday, at 7.30 p.m., to discuss the proposition of granting an electric lighting and power concession for the joint districts. Leave of absence for three months was granted to Mr. H. H. Hunt. The foreman of works reported that the work of tarring and sanding the footpath from the council office to the school had been delayed, owing to inability to procure tar for the work. For the month 28 chains of footpath had been tarred and sanded. So far 280 ft of concrete channelling had been turned out of the moulds, and a start had been made to lay the kerbing alongside the new footpath near the wharf.

The • waterworks engineer reported that 1,647,000 gallons of water had been pumped during the month of February, including 821,000 gallons supplied to the Takapuna Borough. The level of Lake Takapuna was 6ft ljin above high water sea level.
