COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS.

FIRST UNITED CONFERENCE.

RECIPROCAL PRIVILEGES.

The first conference of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association of New Zealand has just concluded at Wellington. Delegates representing the Dunedin, Wellington, Auckland, and . Christchurch Associations were present. ;

Matters affecting the interests of commercial travellers and warehousemen throughout the Dominion were discussed. Among the items of special interest to travellers and the commercial community generally were the question of the bonatide travellers' certificate and the qualifications necessary to obtain it, and the question of reciprocal privileges as between the New Zealand and other Australasian associations.

It was announced that travellers' certificates would come into vogue almost immediately, and would be issued by each of the associations in the four centres of New Zealand.

The basis of a reciprocal treaty with Australia was submitted to the conference by a sub-committee and approved. Mr. D McPherson, of Dunedin, was appointed a special representative to attend the Australasian Travellers' Conference, to be held in Melbourne during Easter, when the important matter of the reciprocal treaty will be decided. By the terms of the proposed treaty, commercial travellers visiting Australia, and vice-versa, will enjoy the same privileges as they are entitled to in their own associations. The delegates decided that the next annual conference of the United New Zealand Association should be held at Dunedin. Mr. D. McPherson, of that city, was unanimously elected president of the association for 1914.

The Auckland Association was represented at the conference in Wellington by Messrs. D. W. McLean (president), A. G. Cooke (chairman of committee), and W. E. Young (member of the executive council). They have presented a report outlining the work of the United Conference to the Auckland Association.
