ENGINEDRIVER KILLED.

FALL OVER A BANK.

Napier, Wednesday. ■A fatality occurred this morning at Puketitiri, about 35 miles inland from Napier, whereby a single man named Men Nicholson, 23 years old, lost his life.

Nicholson was driving a traction engine, bringing two truck loads of timber to town. When an embankment about a mile along the road was reached, the steering chain carried away and the engine went over the side, dragging a truck with it into a gully 12ft deep. The engine turned completely over. Nicholson was struck on the head with the draw-pin of the trailer, the iron penetrating the head and causing instantaneous death. SHIP'S CAPTAIN INJURED. FALL ON A PLANK. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te Aroha, Wednesday. An accident of a serious nature befel Captain Macdonald, of the Northern Steamship Company's steamer Rotokohou, !on Tuesday. He was walking with a I bag of wheat on his back down a plank I from the steamer to the landing at iTirohia when the plank shifted, precipitating him on his back on the plank with the bag of wheat on top. He was attended, on the steamer's arrival at Te Aroha, by Dr. Gordon, who ordered his removal to his home in Paeroa. His injuries are inclined to be of a serious nature.

NATURAL CAUSES.

A WOMAN'S DEATH. [by TELEGRAPH.KRESS association.] Dunebin, Wednesday. The circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Doocey, who was supposed to have received injuries in a collision with a drunken man on Saturday, were inquired into by the coroner to-day. Medical evidence, the result of a postmortem examination, showed that death was due to inter-cerebral pressure, due to cerebral hemorrhage. The doctors stated that the bleeding was spontaneous, and the fall in the street had nothing to do with it. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony.
