CHARGES OF THEFT.
MAN GIVEN A CHANCE.
[bt TELEGRAPH. association.] Wellington, Wednesday. The young man Arthur Richards, who was arrested at Auckland, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to two charges of stealing £1 7s sd, the property of the Labour Department, and lis, the property of the Government.
Mr. Macassey, for the Labour Department, stated that the total amount of moneys received by the defendant and unaccounted for, from September 13, 1913, to January 26, 1914, was £92 9s 6d., but full restitution had since been made. Accused had been in the Labour Department for three years, and, hitherto, had borne a good character. The Department did not press for a severe sentence
On the first charge, accused was fined £5, and on the second he was convicted and ordered to appear for sentence when called upon.
