ENGLISH TEAM'S, VISIT.

; The council of management; of the New Zealand Rugby League met last evening in connection with the visit of'the English team during the .coming .season. The president (Mr. D. W. McLean) was in the chair, and there were also present: Messrs. J. B. Morton,. F. Gladding, N. Levien, A. Campbell, P. S. Ussher, E. Watts, 0. Carlaw, and W. Oakley (secretary). . - A cable malsage was received from the Northern Union secretary that the team could play possibly six matches in ,-New Zealand, and the New ; South Wales League intimated that the. British team would have: to leave .Australia, for New Zealand on July 8, and leave on the return journey not later .. than - August 3. The terms for the tour would be 65 per sent, of the gross gates, i- " ' Some discussion took place on the merits of the respective leagues in New' Zealand. The brief visit of the Englishmen made" it impossible for the council to allot a Saturday match to all the more important leagues, such as Canterbury, Ta.rana.ki, HawkVs-Bay, and Wellington. In regard to the latter centre, it was de=cided to telegraph asking whether Wellington was willing Co finance; ai match, and pending a reply, it was-decided not to proceed with the arranging of the itinerary. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. McLean, Levien, Gladding, > and Camp .bell, will meet ; to-morrow night to make final arrangements. ._ The town clerk jntimated that the Oily Council had granted the league the use of the Domain for three days for matches against the British team, the terms being, £20 for the ground; £2'for the stand, and £2 10s for advertising, 'and & pet" cent, of the takings of the gates over £50, the league to fix the dates oh which- the ground would be needed.
