THE ANNUAL MEETING.

[by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute Board of Governors is being held to-day. Feeling reference was made to the death of Mr. Hamilton (director of the Dominion Museum) and to the valuable work he had done in the cause of science. The president, in his address, reviewed the transactions of the institute during the past 12 months. Regarding Antarctic exploration work he stated that if the expeditions meet, a* they h6ped to meet, with the success they deserve, the Antarctic would soon be one of the best scientifically explored portions of the earth, and New Zealand problems connected therewith would be within measurable reach of satisfactory solution! The election of officers resulted in the re-election of the president (Dr. Chilton) and the treasurer (Mr. C. A. Ewen), and the standing, committees. Dr. W. W. Skeates (Melbourne) and Professor David (Sydney) were appointed to the board of selectors for the Hector award (geology) and Dr. Benham, Dr. Cockayne, and Professor David were appointed selectors for the Hutton award, to be made in 1917.
