The proprietors of the Auckland Weeext News have much, pleasure in announcing their Sixteenth Photographc Prize Com-* petition. The annual competitions are promoted with a view to encouraging photographersboth professionals and am an teurs— produce pictures of the kind demanded by modern journalism. New Zealand is already famous for the high quality of its photographic work, but still further progress can be made, and it is for the purpose of forwarding this progressive movement that the Weekly News competitions are arranged. Un-i rivalled climatic conditions prevail in New Zealand, and photographers possess great opportunities for doing the kind of out-" door work which an up-to-date illustrated newspaper ' requires- The competition is arranged in seven classes, which fairly, represent all the kinds of work required of the newspaper photographer. Every person who possesses a. camera can. find in one or other of the classes something which he or she can do. City people may not be able to send a farm view, but they can easily secure a good seascape or, a yachting snapshot, while the man on the land who never sees the ocean fori years at a time might be successful with, a bush view or landscape;' ■■•■■ The ■' conn petition is advertised early, so that conn petitors may have the benefit of the sunn mer season and the Easter holidays in which to obtain good pictures..
